Petition filed against SHO for harassment

17 Aug, 2008

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has called for report from SHO police station Gakkhar Mandi in a petition filed by one Mohammad Iqbal against police harassment. The court also directed the District Police Officer Gujranwala to get explanation from the SHO and submit it to the court within a week.
Petitioner submitted that his relative Muhammad Iqbal was accused in a murder case. He said Iqbal became fugitive from law and since then, the police was victimising him (petitioner) and his family.
He alleged that the SHO used to pick up any member of his family and keep them in illegal custody without any record or production before a court of law. He said after the arrest SHO receives ransom and then releases the persons. He therefore, prayed to the court to direct SHO to arrest the culprits instead of taking coercive actions against him and his family members.
