The compressed natural gas (CNG) station-owners are going to face the authorities here on August 18 (Monday) on defying the government on the issue of CNG prices. Finance Minister Syed Naveed Qamar had taken serious notice of overcharging of CNG prices by the station owners in the Economic Monitoring Committee (EMC) meeting, held here on August 15.
The minister directed to the authorities concerned to call a meeting on August 18 and put an end to this practice. He asked Finance Secretary Furrukh Qayyum to chair Monday's meeting on CNG issue and convey the CNG station-owners that the government will not allow fleecing of the consumes.
The station-owners have been charging their owned fixed price of CNG since July 1. Despite repeated reminders they are not willing to sell CNG at officially notified rates.
Sources said that Monday's meeting will also take the issue of new CNG pricing formula as well as the role of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for monitory retail prices at the stations.
