Charge sheet finalised: Sherry

Information Minister Sherry Rehman said on Sunday that draft committee has finalised charge-sheet for impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf, as the PPP said it would not try the President under Article 6 of the Constitution for treason.
Talking to media persons after the draft committee met at her residence, she said the charge-sheet would be sent to coalition leadership for approval in a couple of days. She said the ruling coalition would not exercise Article 6 because the PPP did not believe in the politics of revenge. "We want a stable democratic government and a stable country," she added.
Sherry Rehman said the draft has been given format of legal document by Law and Justice Minister Farooq H. Naek, who briefed the draft committee members about the legal aspects of each point included in the charge-sheet.
She said that coalition leaders, including Nawaz Sharrif and Asif Ali Zardari would review the draft document before it is brought into the parliament in the form of the impeachment motion.
Sherry said that coalition leaders had the discretionary power to give a safe exit to Musharraf. She denied that the government was in contact with the presidential camp. She said that the President could resign under Article 44 of the Constitution to avoid impeachment.
Besides Sherry Rehman, the draft committee members, including Ahsan Iqbal and Senator Ishaq Dar of the PML(N), Farooq Naik, and Farhatullah Babar attended the meeting.
