Haider Abbas Rizvi, a senior leader of MQM escaped unhurt in an apparent assassination attempt here on Sunday. Rizvi's car came under attack in Pak Colony area when he was heading to a local graveyard, Faisal Sabzwari, a leader of his Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) said.
Rizvi's gunman injured in the attack, Sabzwari said, adding that the injured was taken to hospital. The assailants fled after the incident. No group claimed responsibility of the attack.
On Friday, Rizvi, deputy opposition leader in the National Assembly, said MQM would support President Pervez Musharraf when the ruling coalition will table a resolution to impeach the President. Sabzwari said it is the second attack on Rizvi in 10 days, adding that those people are behind the attacks who want to spoil peace in Karachi.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Department has said that a firing incident took place in a public procession on August 17, at 4 p.m, at Pak Colony Road resulting in injury to police constable M. Yunus in the escort vehicle of MNA Haider Abbas Rizvi, who was returning after offering fateha at Mewa Shah graveyard. A press note issued here on Sunday said the attack was not aimed at Haider Abbas Rizvi who is safe and sound.
