Chairman Senate Muhammadmian Soomro on Monday took over as Acting President, after the resignation tendered by President Pervez Musharraf was accepted. Meanwhile, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza signed and accepted the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf.
"The resignation came to my office at 10.30 pm on Monday and I have signed it", Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza told the newsmen here late Monday night. She said the resignation will now be formally notified by her office and will be sent to Secretary Cabinet, the Chairman Senate and the Chief Election Commissioner.
Dr Fehmida Mirza further said that as per the rules and constitution, in the absence of the President the Chairman Senate becomes the Acting President and if the Chairman Senate is not there then the Speaker National Assembly becomes the Acting President.
