Confirmation of contract workers: TCP chairman appoints four-man committee

Over 300 contract employees of Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) observed strike on Monday against illegal confirmation of 17 employees. TCP Chairman Abdul Malik on Friday had confirmed 17 contract employees, including some relatives, without formal approval of the board of directors, on which reacting the 300 contractual employees protested and demand a fair procedure for confirmation.
Contractual employees gathered outside the Chairman' office and raised slogans against him and demanded confirmation of all contractual employees. Later, the Chairman called a board meeting and called back the conformation of 17 employees, besides forming a four-member committee for confirmation of contract employees.
Sources said that two months back, the Chairman had also confirmed four relative without approval of board of directors. Due to the strike called by contractual employees, TCP work remained suspended.
