Social development is inevitable for bringing economic development while poverty and ignorance are main hurdles in efforts aimed at checking population growth. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Neelam Jabbar here on Wednesday.
She said that there is an increase of three million babies in Pakistan every year, as such economic development was not possible without proper control of population growth.
Talking to delegations of community leaders, doctors and paramedics, she said that if population growth rate remained unchecked, it would be dangerous for socio-economic progress of the country. She said that effective results could be achieved by incorporating medical practitioners into the population welfare programmes whereas awareness seminars and gatherings could help create awareness among the people about the consequences of rapid population growth.
The minister said that assistance would be given to those medical practitioners who would help the department to control population growth rate, as rapid increase in population has become the most important issue in the country.
"If we want to save the coming generations from serious socio-economic problems, we should control the rapid increase in population', she said, adding that the government would pay special attention on education of women, especially in the remote areas.
