Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Karachi, Waseem Ahmed Shaikh has said that the department will prepare a comprehensive long-term security plan for Korangi industrial area after consultation with KITE Limited.
Speaking at a meeting of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) on Thursday, he said that providing security and safety to all citizens is the responsibility of police department and we are trying our best to fulfil these responsibilities with limited resources.
The CCPO noted that there are only 30,000 police officials in the city to maintain law and order situation in a city having more than 16 million inhabitants. He informed business community that recruitment of 5000 new police officials will start from August 25.
He hoped that with the recruitment of new police personnel shortage of police officials would be overcome to some extent. He admitted that street crime is a big challenge for police department. Efforts have been made to overcome this issue.
Referring to Mehran Town issue, he expressed concern over ongoing illegal activities in the town and assured that the police will take action against criminals according to law. CCPO also assured to provide full support to remove encroachment from Mehran Town and other parts of the city.
Replying to a complaint that police stations refused to register complains, he assured that the police would register FIR on receipt of complaint from any one and added that those SHOs who fail to register FIR will be taken to task. Referring to a demand of two police stations for Korangi industrial areas, he said that this proposal would be finalised by September 30. Chairman KATI welcomed the guests.
