Zardari as president not PML-N idea: Ahsan

22 Aug, 2008

Secretary Information Pakistan Muslim League-N Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that the proposal to elect PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as President is not the idea of PML-N as it emits from within the PPP camp.
He was speaking to the media outside the Parliament House where he expressed his desire that PPP would soon announce to restore the judges as per its commitment with the coalition parties otherwise the coalition would not remain intact. If the coalition government did not restore judges, PML-N would restore them with the help of masses, he remarked.
Ahsan added that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif had already made it clear that the country needs political stability to bring it out of the present multipronged crises and a stable coalition is essential for the purpose. He said that the Murree Declaration signed by Asif Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif is ultimately based on the success of the coalition and PPP should ensure its implementation.
The judges, he said, should have been restored on August 19 as per the commitment made by PPP co-chairman with Nawaz Sharif on August 7 at Zardari House, adding that Musharraf has gone and his legacy must also be wiped out. When asked about the proposal to make Asif Zardari as President, he said the proposal has been floated by PPP and his party would decide, in case if it was formally consulted.
Ahsan said that the policy of war on terror should be reviewed and be debated in the Parliament. Use of force is not the solution, he said, adding that issue should be settled through negotiations.
