Piaf to remove fear factor among business community

23 Aug, 2008

Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (Piaf) has decided to launch "contact campaign" to undo the fear factor spoiling the business atmosphere in the country.
The Piaf leadership along with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) office-bearers would visit all the city markets and industrial areas to hold meetings with the business community so that they could be able to do their businesses with peace of mind.
Piaf Chairman Irfan Qaiser and Vice-Chairmen Iqbal Baig Chughtai and Khwaja Shahzeb Akram here stated this on Friday. The Piaf office-bearers, condemning the Wah Cantt blasts in severest possible terms, said that the blasts had not only shaken the confidence of the business community once again, but it had also sent a very wrong signal abroad.
It would now take time to improve the image of the country in the eyes of foreigners, they said. They further said that the ongoing political uncertainty, coupled with bad law and order situation, was negatively impacting the economy of the country, which needed to be taken care of by the coalition partners.
The Piaf office-bearers said that the February 18 elections and the resultant formation of governments in the Centre and provinces had give the people a hope that the economy would now get a jumpstart, but the situation was still the same due to political uncertainty. They urged the coalition partners to take immediate measures on the judges' issue, which was also spoiling the economic atmosphere of the country.
