Establishment of PATA Development Authority demanded

Participants of a seminar through a unanimous resolution urged the government to immediately create a PATA Development Authority in the Provincially Administrated Tribal Areas (PATA) to look after infrastructure development in these areas. The seminar was organised by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Awaz Foundation at the HRCP Secretariat here on Friday.
The resolution demanded that Ministry of Women Development address problems being faced by women in tribal areas. It also demanded for the appointments of special education officers to ensure a specific focus on women education, elimination of Sardars' influence, replacement of Border Military Police with a more responsible police force, establishment of a Fort Munroe Development Authority to develop the hill station for creating job opportunities for the locals.
It urged cement and mining companies and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to undertake their corporate social responsibilities and ensure that their operations should not cause environment degradation. Speaking on the occasion, Director, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) I A Rehman said that the Punjab was considered a rich province but there were also some areas in the province, which were far away from the prosperity.
