A famous mobile theatre in Indian state of Assam on Friday staged a play on the life of late Benazir Bhutto. The play 'Benazir Bhutto' being staged by Abahan theatrical group will be the first theatrical documentation on the slain former Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The play focusing on late Benazir's tumultuous life especially, her Oxford University days, her life as Prime Minister, her exile, return to the country and the eventual fall to the terrorists' bullets has generated a lot of excitement in Assam.
Media reports quoting playwright Dhruba Jyoti Sharma who has written and directed the play said 'She was a magnetic personality in Pakistani politics. She had attracted the world's attention. The play on her life would also attract similar attention.' 'It is the first dramatisation of late Benazir's life, and I have written the play after thorough research into the life of the former Pakistani leader.
Further, he said though the sets have to match the grand style of the political leader and her associates, the producers have tried their level best to correctly portray the life of the self-christened Daughter of the East.
Angurlata, a top cinema artiste of the state, will play Bhutto's character for whom costumes were tailored in Mumbai and make-up artists brought from some southern states, he added. 'A single song sequence for the play has cost Rs 4 lakh. There are nine sets being used each costing almost Rs 30, 000.'
