US diplomat Corlin Tracy's vehicle came under fire from unknown people. However, she and her security guards remained unhurt. According to police sources, the Principal Officer of US Consulate Peshawar, Corlin Tracy left her residence at University Town, Peshawar for her office and was just few meters away when some unknown miscreants opened indiscriminate fire on her vehicle on Rehman Baba Road.
The US diplomat along with her driver bodyguard remained unhurt due to bullet-proof vehicle. However, the engine of the vehicle was damaged in the incident. During the firing vehicle of the US diplomat also collided with an auto-rickshaw resulting in the injuries of its driver, who was later shifted to a hospital in Peshawar.
Hearing about the incident, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) NWFP, Malik Mohammed Naveed along with Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Dr Suleman and other senior police officials rushed to the spot and also held meeting with Corlin Tracy in her residence.
The senior police officials are attributing the attack to the ongoing military operation in tribal areas. "The police had started investigation into the case as the vehicle had hit by 5 to 6 bullets," the provincial police chief has reportedly told a private TV channel.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister NWFP Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has condemned attack. Hoti termed it a sorrowful incident and reaffirmed the resolve of the provincial government for provision of all possible protection to foreign diplomats. Talking to media after inauguration of Model Traffic Police, he said the incident would hit the image of the province.
He said the provision of protection to the lives and properties of the people is the top most responsibility of the government on which it will not make any kind of compromise. He said all foreign diplomats would be provided all possible security in the province. He said efforts for restoration of peace in the restive areas were on through negotiations and development schemes.
