Punjab Governor Salman Taseer addressing a press conference here on Tuesday declared that Punjab Assembly would not be dissolved and the democratic process would not be allowed to be harmed. He said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was a symbol of federation and presidential election had higher significance for federation as well as the provinces.
The Governor said PPP had its presence in all the four provinces of the country and would not ditch the masses and serve them to its best. Salman Taseer referring to Changa Manga legacy said that it won't be allowed to be repeated. He averred that he had asked IG and Chief Minister in this connection and given pertinent instructions on the point.
He said there were three presidential candidates in the field and keeping in line with democratic norms they would not be hindered in any way in their contest, he assured. The Governor said elections of the president would be transparent, free and fair. Referring to breaking of coalition, the Governor said PPP had not opted out of it, rather it was Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that parted ways.
Taseer said in the spirit of reconciliation and understanding, minority party was given slot of Chief Minister in the Province and said he was against politics of blocks in political parties, added.
