Fire fighting, rescue operation project launched

The government of NWFP in collabouration with GTZ-German technical support has started training programme for generating volunteers in fire-fighting and rescue operation for students of the public sector schools in the province. In the first phase of the project 60 teachers had completed their training.
The project had been launched as a pilot project in District Mansehra under which 10 women and 20 men teachers had completed their 12-day training workshop. The project initiated under GTZ-German technical support and Department of Civil Defence has been given the name of 'School Based Training of Civil Defence and Disaster Management.
Department of Elementary and Secondary Schools NWFP, Civil Defence and GTZ are jointly monitoring the project. It would be later extended to other districts of the province. In this connection, a function to distribute certificates among the participants was held with District Nazim, Sardar Mohammad Yusuf as chief guest in Mansehra.
Those who attended the function were included Additional Secretary Home, Masood Alam, Director Civil Defence NWFP Noor Ali Khan and advisor of GTZ Asif Sherazi. The speakers stressed the need of training volunteers in fire-fighting and rescue training in the province in general and earthquake affected areas in particular.-PR
