Closure of liquor shops ordered during Ramazan

31 Aug, 2008

Taking notice of reports of illegal sale/trade of raw liquor in different localities, Director General, Excise and Taxation Sindh, Muhammad Asif Marghoob Siddiqui has issued instructions to all Directors (Excise), Officers of Excise and Taxation and intelligence teams to be vigilant and ensure that such illegal activities come to a halt.
He pointed out that such a trend picks up in the holy month of Ramazan when the official sale of liquor from licensed wine shops is stopped. He reminded the officials of a number of casualties, which took place in Karachi last year in the holy month due to consumption of illicit/raw liquor. The DG E&T emphasised that necessary measures are needed to eradicate this menace and warned that severe action would be taken against officials failing their responsibilities and also in case any such incident takes place.
Asif Marghoub said that IG Police has also been requested to issue necessary directions to all SHOs to exercise vigil in the matter. The DG E&T, with the approval of Minister, Excise and Taxation Sindh, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, issued orders for the closure of all liquor shops throughout the province during the holy month of Ramazan.
