ICMAP holds management accounting conference

The Provincial Minister for Revenue, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has said that the Cost Accountants need to come forward and help Sindh Government in ascertaining the value of Thar coal and of Granite that he described as `Black Gold' of Sindh. This he stated while addressing the 20th Management Accounting Students Conference 2008.
The moot was organised by the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) at a local hotel on Monday. The Minister said organisations today face myriad options and challenges and as such they need Management Accountants to step in and work at any level as part of team.
He further stated that Pakistan is blessed with all kinds of natural resources and its people are second to none in hard work and intellectual capabilities as such we are looking forward to a socio-economic breakthrough and with sincere efforts that are being made by the Government. Shah was optimistic that we will achieve the objective.
Referring to the role of the Management Accountants viz a viz Marketing, Production, he said that all business today is about to create value. Therefore, the Management Accountants have an important role to ensure that correct financial decisions are made. Further, he congratulated the ICMAP for organising such educational conferences every year where students are given freedom to express their point of view on the economic conditions of the country.
Later, he distributed certificates amongst the best student speakers of the conference and congratulated them. Earlier, Sher Afghan, President of the ICMAP in his welcome address said that the Institute organises such educational conference every year and this year the theme was `Economic Revival: How Management Accountants can contribute'.
He further said that the objective of holding such conference is to prepare these young Cost Accountants to face the economic challenges of future for Pakistan. Javed Mansha, Chairman of the Karachi Provincial Council of the ICMAP and Syed Maqsood Hassan also spoke on the occasion.
