04 Sep, 2008

Chairman of Banking and Insurance Sub-Committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Kamran Ilahi has urged the government not to phase out old two-stroke rickshaws.
According to a sub-committee report, he recommended modification in President's Rozgar Scheme after the auto rickshaw industry termed it flawed scheme, and added that financing at a lower rate provided to those people, who were unable to purchase even an autorickshaw.
He suggested that CNG rickshaws, considered environment-friendly, be allowed to ply in urban areas. Another member of the sub-committee Haji Abdul Waheed, proposed removal of flaws in the President's Rozgar Scheme by lowering the limit of bank guarantees for the manufacturers and provision of auto rickshaws only to those who have driving licenses.
