"It is shocking to note that a Senator had defended the barbaric act of burying three woman alive as a tribal custom. No religion or civilised society tolerates such an inhuman act; rather it is a social evil and matter of grave concern that needs the attention of policy makers."
This was stated by Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman Moderates, a private sector think tank strengthening tolerance, interfaith harmony and democracy. "Although the event took place almost a month ago in remote village, it is alarming that the matter has not been raised before more vocally. Even when it has been raised, the government chooses to maintain a passive stance. There is no doubt to the fact that the government should be seeking the murderers and setting an example of justice as per the norms of a civilised society", said Jawaid.
This is not the first of such incidents nor is it limited to just Balochistan. It is common practice throughout the country to commit barbarism in the name of 'honour killing', vani, swara, beheading of people on orders of illegal 'jirgas' etc.
The Moderates Chairman further commented that as a civilised Muslim society, the Pakistani nation in general and the policy makers in specific needed to realise how the religion was tarnished by forgiving such acts of crime and Pakistan's image was labelled with tags of fundamentalism and extremism.-PR
