LHC orders auction of flower shops

06 Sep, 2008

The Lahore High Court has ordered auction of six disputed flower shops of Miani Sahib Graveyard outside Janazgar mosque within 15 days in a petition filed by the previous tenants of these shops. The LHC ordered that the auction would be for three years and there would be 10 percent increase in the rent every year.
The judge further ruled that if during this period, the mosque was required to be widened, these shops would get vacated at any time after few days notice. The court issued these orders in a combine petition of Shah Din, Wasim Sharif, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Ijaz, Muhammad Ishaque and Basharat Ali who submitted that they were running the flower shops at the Lytton Road, outside the Miani Sahib graveyard for last 30 years.
They had got shops on rent from the graveyard administration. In 1992 the graveyard administration after demolishing the structure of the shops rebuilt the present shops and gave out these shops to them on rent. They submitted that earlier the administration also tried to get the shops vacated but they got interim injunction from a civil judge.
