Senate calls for reviewing external, internal policies

06 Sep, 2008

The Senate on Friday called for reviewing external and internal policies to assert extremism and terrorism in tribal areas of NWFP and Fata. Initiating the debate, Professor Khursheed Ahmad said that Musharraf signed many secret pacts with US administration, for which US is carrying out attacks inside Pakistan "territory".
He said that the problems being faced by the people of Fata should be resolved through political negotiations as the people of tribal areas are peace loving and patriotic. They have never created any problem for Pakistan during the last 60 years, he added. He said that it is dangerous trend that army has been pitched against the people of Pakistan, it should be reversed forthwith to save the country from disintegration.
Azam Swati said that absence of national security policy is creating problems in the country. He said that tribes were peaceful and defended our long western boarder for a long time. But we pitched our army against them and forced them to become terrorist and suicide bomber.
He said that we should not limit the matter only to speeches but should come up with some roadmap to meet the challenges. He said that US and its allies have plan to change our geographical border and divide our population. Now the only solution is that all the political forces should solve their internal problems with negotiations and should say goodbye to the Bush policies.
Professor Ibraheem criticised the Defence Minister for his statement saying that tribes would have done something for which they were targeted. He said that our Defence Minister is in the hands of those who attacked innocent women and children.
Sajid Ahmad said that it is an international conspiracy that has been hatched against Pakistan. Swat, which was not only a peaceful area but was also a focal point for the tourists and people, were earning lot of money. People have invested millions for the construction of tourism industry but due to unrest in the valley they are suffering.
Now their school and hospitals have been demolished and roads are without traffic. There was no disturbance for last 58 years but the time we have adopted US policies we are suffering. We have fully supported them. We have given them intelligence support that they are using against our soil and our people.
