Daska municipal library still waiting for new books

08 Sep, 2008

As many as two decades have passed but the Daska tehsil's only Daska municipal library still has been waiting for new books to quench the thirst of knowledge of the local readers and students as well.
It was worth mentioning that no books have yet been purchased for Daska Municipal Library by the Daska Tehsil Municipal for the last 20 years, amazingly, due to alleged slackness of concerned officials of Daska Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA).
There are only 3,100 books in this library which have become old and they do not cater the educational needs of the Daska tehsil's more than one million population. The Daska TMA has never allocated the necessary funds in its annual budget for purchasing the new books.
There were no syllabus books for MA classes' students. The future of the Daska tehsil's only municipal public library remains in doldrums, as the remaining half of the portion of the Daska Municipal Library is also likely to be converted into the local Nadra office by the Daska Tehsil Municipal Administration.
Earlier, this office was established in half portion of this library building, which has been badly disrupting the environment of the library. Five years ago, the Nadra had established its local office by covering the half portion of the building of this library due to the non-availability of any other suitable place in Daska city. Since then, the said building has not yet been vacated by Nadra and instead of getting vacated this building the Daska TMA was planning to also give the half portion of the said building to under control and usage of Nadra.
There is no rack for keeping the record of the old newspapers due to which the books and old newspapers were dusty. The dusty walls have not yet been white washed since long. The broken furniture also speaks the volume of the negligence of the Daska TMA's concerned officials.
There was no proper arrangement of cleanliness in this library. Half portion of Daska Municipal library was lying occupied by Nadra for the last four consecutive years while the left portion of library was also being used as a parking stand, as the Nadra staff park their vehicles including motorcycles inside the library. The condition of the building of Daska library was miserable, as the roof top of this building has no system for disposal of the rainy water on this roof.
