Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has collected Rs 0.93 million as fine imposed on traffic violators during the first week of September, issuing 3,123 tickets for not using seat belts, using mobile phones while driving etc.
According to ITP figures, provided to Business Recorder on Monday, the ITP has recently made it compulsory the use of seat belts, ban on mobile phones while driving and using high beam lights in the list of offenses and decided to impose fine of Rs 300 on first two offences and Rs 200 for committing the third offence.
The ITP issued 2,439 tickets for not using seatbelt, and imposed Rs 731,700 fine; 604 tickets for using mobile listening with total fine of Rs 181,200, while 80 tickets were issued on high beam lights worth Rs 16,000. The number of tickets submitted to the court has been decreased by 12.80 percent as 85,637 were submitted till august 2007, while 74,678 tickets were submitted in August 2008.
