NWFP to bring all new commercial property, colonies into tax net

NWFP Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab has directed all excise and taxation officers (ETOs) of the province to bring all newly constructed colonies and commercial property of the rating areas into tax net so that revenue of the province could be improved and discrimination of the tax payers be removed. He said that all the areas would be checked and warned if any taxable property was found unregistered, the concerned officers had to face the music.
Presiding a meeting of Excise and Taxation Department here, he took serious notice of the absentesism and other irregularities and shortfall in different offices. Those who attended the meeting included Excise and Taxation Secretary Sajid Khan Jadoon, Director General of Excise and Taxation Amber Ali Shah and Director of Administration Syed Wadood Shah, besides all ETOs, AETOs and inspectors of the province.
Liaquat Shabab warned the officials that no compromise would be made on such matters, while all the officers, including the supporting staff, would also be treated according to the law. The minister also advised the officials of the department to change their behaviour and attitudes while dealing with the taxpayers.
Regarding interruption by some district governments in the affairs of Excise and Taxation Department, Liaquat Shabab said no other body was allowed to interfere with the affairs of this department.
On this occasion, the E & T Secretary directed all the officers to present a copy of the flat rate to the clients, along with the tax notices to the public so that they could know about the tax rates and his share in the national exchequer. The meeting also reviewed the recoveries, made during the current fiscal year, and announced that the officials with outstanding performance would be awarded commendation certificates and shields.
