With the increase in temperature, electricity crisis in the metropolis has intensified to add to the miseries of Karachiites, Aaj TV reported on Friday. Due to the closure of unit 2 and 3 of the Bin Qasim Power Plant, the KESC is facing a shortage of 850 MW electricity.
The severe load shedding forced the Karachiites to spend night without sleeping on the roads. In Mehmoodabad angry people came on streets due to prolong load shedding and chanted slogans against the KESC administration. The protestors burnt tyres and blocked Mehmoodabad road. They also pelted stones at Fire Brigade and Police personnel.
Quoting the sources, the channel said that usage of gas has reduced the production capacity of the Bin Qasim Power Plant from 1,186 megawatts to 700 megawatts.
Currently the city is being supplied with 460 megawatts electricity due to the closure of two Bin Qasim units, which has further aggravated the situation.
