Dr Fehmida, first acting woman President

Dr Fehmida Mirza became first acting woman President of Pakistan as she took the charge in absentia of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Senate Mohammadmian Soomro, who are abroad. Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza assumed the responsibilities as Acting President of Pakistan and took the charge under Article (2) 49 of the Constitution, under which she will hold the office till the return of any of the two dignitaries.
President Asif Ali Zardari has left for Dubai on a private visit, from where he flies to London in connection with his daughter's college admission, while Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro is in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
Dr Mirza is the first woman in the country's history, performing her duties as Acting President. Meanwhile, Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker National Assembly will act as Speaker National Assembly with effect from September 12, as Dr Fehmida has assumed charge as Acting President.
