Sewers working satisfactorily

14 Sep, 2008

The Project Director, Hyderabad Development Package, Syed Sarfraz Ali Shah in his letter addressed to Zila Nazim Hyderabad has denied that Sheedi Goth Pumping Station and related sewer lines were not functioning properly and said that this system is designed by consultants to meet disposal requirements of future population up to 20 years.
As such the question for running of pumping stations at full design capacity does not arise at this stage. Clarifying the news item appeared in the section of press about dissatisfactory performance of the system, he said that the working of the sewers is quite satisfactory and up to the mark, which could be examined from the fact that after the heavy downpour on August 2 and August 12, 2008, there was no sign of rain water in the streets of the concerned areas in the next morning.
However, Project Director Hyderabad Development Package said that only Sindhi Muslim Co-operative Society did not get the benefit of this system because dumping of silt in the manholes inside boundary wall by the inhabitants.
This virtually disconnected the sewerage network of the society from main sewer network. He said that now the silted manholes being desilted by HDP contractors at their own cost to restore the connectivity of the system and it would be completed shortly, he added.
