Acting President Dr Fehmida Mirza has called upon the people to extend their full co-operation to the present democratic government in strengthening democracy as well as resolving the external and internal issues of the country. The country is facing a number of challenges because of the policies of previous rulers, which needs time for settlement, she said while addressing a big gathering here at the Circuit House on Monday evening.
She said that the people have great hope with the present democratic government, however, there is need to strengthen the hands of the government with patience so that it could initiate concrete measures for uplift of the common people and address the issues, which the country is facing both on the external and internal sides.
Time is not far when the people will get all required facilities including water, electricity, she said and added the efforts made by the present government will soon result in improvement of law and order, overcoming the problem of unemployment, price hike and improvement of the socio-economic condition of the common people along with development of their areas.
About the problems being faced by the people of Badin district, the Acting President said Badin is the largest oil production district of the country but unfortunately the majority of the people here are living below the poverty line. However, the Acting President maintained, the dark days of the district have now passed away and the people will soon witness a revolution with a change of the destiny of people of the district.
Acting President informed that efforts so far have led to half mark of the destination of getting royalty on oil production and soon the people of the district will get production bonus, which ultimately will improve their socio-economic condition.
Dr Mirza said during the current financial year, more than 60 villages of the district will be energised while two quarters for factory workers will also be constructed at the workers' colony. Besides, state of the art cardiac and eye units are being established in Civil Hospital Badin, she added.
Acting President called upon the people of the district to fully cooperate with the mobile team of Nadra so that they could get Computerised National Identity Card, which has now become essential in daily life. In order to overcome the shortage of water, she said the government has decided to redesign the irrigation channels so that water could reach the tails of these channels and the growers could cultivate their crops.
Paying glowing tributes to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the Acting President said the present government is striving hard to accomplish her mission of improving socio-economic condition of the people particularly women of the country. In order to fulfil the dream of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, 550 acres agriculture land is being granted to women to help them sow crops and earn profit for themselves and the family members, she added.
Recalling September 15, which is being observed as World Democracy Day, the Acting President said in Pakistan it is the day for which, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life.
She termed the position of first women Acting President of the Islamic World after becoming first woman Speaker of National Assembly as another honour for her and said it because of the people of Badin district who elected her that she came here today to celebrate the World Democracy Day with them.
Among others Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and President Pakistan Peoples Party, Badin District MPA Dr Sikandar Ali Mehindro also addressed the gathering and highlighted the problems, being faced by the people of the district. A large number of elected and people's representatives and notables of the district were also present on the occasion.
