Sale of adulterated foodstuff on the rise

The sale of adulterated milk and foodstuff is on the rise as there is no check and monitoring on the part of Health Department and Food authorities. During a survey people demanded prompt action against those responsible for the illegal trade.
It is reported that various confectioners and bakers of the city were allegedly involved in the illegal business who almost bake and prepare confectionery stuff using substandard ghee and cooking oil. According to survey due to apathy of food and health department life hazardous food items are posing serious threat to the health of people.
It has been reported that a number of people particularly children across the district have been suffering from jaundice, cholera and other serious abdominal diseases resulting from use of low quality of food items and contaminated water.
It has also been reported that with the rise in temperature and humidity, the situation further aggravated the problem. But to the disappointment of residents the situation is going unnoticed by the concerned authorities.
Residents blame district administration for keeping its eyes shut over the existing circumstances as it has taken no steps for the rectification of worst cleanliness situation of the city as well as controlling the clandestine trade of fake and adulterated food items in city and its surrounding areas.
Residents complained that despite paying taxes, they had failed to receive response about the basic amenities. They are compelled to drink polluted water, which has become a serious threat to health. People have called upon the Ministry of Health and Local Government of NWFP to take notice of the situation.
