LHC summons DPO, SHO

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned District Police Officer (DPO) Gujarat and Station House Officer (SHO) police station Jalalpur Jattan on Friday (today) in relation to a petition of a PML-Q activist Chaudhry Afghan Farooq against police harassment and registration of fake cases.
The judge also restrained the police from arresting the petitioner and taking any coercive action against him. The petitioner Chaudhry Afghan, submitted that he is a political activist and had never been involved in any criminal or anti-social activities.
He belongs to PML-Q and launched election campaign for Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, brother of PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. He said after the change of government in Punjab the respondent SHO on the directions of DPO Gujarat Tahir Alam started harassing him and his family members and conducting raids at his house.
DPO was informed about the illegal actions of the SHO but no action was taken so far. Petitioner alleged that the DPO and the SHO registered a fake case of attempting murder registered against him. He, therefore, prayed to the court to suspend the operation of the FIR in question and order to hold judicial inquiry against the DPO and the SHO. He further prayed that till the final decision of the petition police should be restrained from arresting him.
