The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed District Police Officers (DPOs) of Gujrat and Mandi Baha-ud-Din to appear before the court on September 22 in person in a petition of Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din, opposition leader in Punjab Assembly.
The petitioner challenged the illegal arrests of party's workers and alleged political victimisation on the part of PML-N led Punjab government. He said on September 17, last PML-Q arranged an Iftar-Dinner in the honour of its parliamentarians and workers.
The opposition leader alleged that on the direction of Chief Minister, DPOs Gujrat and Mandi Baha-ud-Din launched a crackdown and arrested over 200 party workers under fake cases. Police arrested and tortured the workers only to settle political scores of PML-N government, he said.
He therefore prayed to court to direct the Inspector General Police Punjab to produce all the record of sweep campaign against PML-Q and be restrained from invoking section 153 PPC in future. All the arrested workers should be produce before a medical board for their medical examination.
