Vehicles auction body meeting remains inconclusive

20 Sep, 2008

A meeting of the Auction Committee for Government vehicles was held under the chairmanship of the NWFP Minister for Finance Engineer Muhammad Humayun Khan at the conference room of Finance Department, here on Friday. Those who attended the meeting included Additional Secretary Finance Usman Gul, Director Excise and Taxation, SP Telecom and other officers of the finance and excise departments.
During the meeting the minister finance expressed displeasure over the none provision of details of the vehicles so far handed over for auction by the excise department. He took serious notice of the matter and directed the Director Excise not to come to the meeting without preparation and stated that next date be given in which all the responsible officers should come fully prepared with all the relevant record so that the matter could be discussed and finalised in the larger interest of the public.
The minister issued strict directives to the concerned quarters and declared that his time should not be wasted on matters, which had not been fully taken up by the officers themselves.
He said mere convening of a meeting was not the actual goal, the meeting should be called in the public interest for a particular objective. When such responsible officers of the excise department attend the meetings showing no real interest, what would one say about their services for public welfare. He directed the authorities to take action against officials for neglecting their duties and causing waste of time and ensure that no such practice would be repeated in the official meetings in future.
