Local government bye-elections soon: ECP

Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad on Saturday said that bye-elections to the three tier of local government institutions will be conducted within couple of weeks. Presiding over a meeting in the office of the provincial election commissioner, Punjab, Lahore he said that Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, former Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq has directed to conduct these elections.
He said that more than 1500 seats are vacant in the province of the Punjab of different categories. In Zila Councils 02 seats of Nazim, 01 Naib Nazim, 19 seats of women, 05 Peasant Workers and two seats of Minority categories are vacant. In Tehsil/Town Councils, 11 seats of Nazim, 6 women, 7 Peasant Workers and 7 Minorities categories are vacant in the Province of the Punjab, whereas 151 of Union Nazim, 51 Naib Union Nazim, 155 Muslim General Seats, 98 Muslim Women seats, 66 Peasant Workers General Seats.
125 Peasant Workers Women Seats, 1045 Minorities seats are vacant in 1441 Union Councils of 35 District of Punjab Province. Kunwar Dilshad said in first phase bye-elections to the vacant seats of union Councils shell be held to complete the Electoral college for conduct of bye-elections of Zila Councils as well as Tehsil/Town Councils.
