An average of 53 students applied against each seat in the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) Punjab University for admission to the postgraduate course.
Dean Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and Director ICS, Professor Dr Mugheesuddin Sheikh talking to APP here on Sunday said that approximately 2500 students from various universities across the country applied against 47 vacant seats for postgraduate course in the ICS. He said open merit of the last student to gain admission is nearly 71 per cent of the total aggregated marks as per criteria laid down in the admission policy, and all seats were filled in accordance with the open merit policy of the Punjab University, he added.
Dr Mughees said to meet the ever rising demand in the electronic and print media for qualified professional staff, the ICS is equipped with the latest technology and the best syllabi. "This has made the ICS the centre of excellence in the field of practical journalism in the country," he observed.
He asserted that students in other universities always cherish a desire to pursue higher studies at the ICS because of its quality education and the latest equipment installed at its TV/Radio production units.
In their last semester, students are trained in the specialisation of their choice ranging from Radio, TV productions, newspaper printing, copy editing and Info Technology. He said BA Honours and short duration courses at the ICS have also become popular, and claimed that the Institute has been declared one of the best not only in Pakistan but also in Asia, by foreign delegates who visited the ICS recently.
