22 Sep, 2008

"Installation of Water Filtration Plant" project funded by the Government of Japan, was formally inaugurated here at Shams Pir Island, Sindh, September 18, 2008. Japan had provided a grant of $43,389 (approx. RS 3.3 million) to the Indus Earth Trust, a non-profit organisation for the project aiming to provide potable water to the residents of Shams Pir Island.
This social sector development project had started from 2005 under an aid scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), in which Japan aims to assist non-governmental organisations, non-profit organisations, and semi-governmental authorities to fulfil their developmental needs at grassroots.
Mubarak Baloch, Union Council Nazim and Akinori Wada, Consul General of Japan, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
This Japanese assistance will benefit approximately 5,000 residents, mainly local, and enable to provide clean and safe drinking water.
Speaking on the occasion Wada said "the project is one of the successful projects that Japan and Pakistan have enthusiastically co-operated. This gives not only pure water but also an opportunity for improving the people's life."-PR
