LHC for a report against police highhandedness

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday directed Civil Judge Saeed Ahmad Awan, SP Shoaib Khurram with a report on September 27 in a suo moto proceedings taken against police highhandedness of releasing accused who had allegedly committed theft in the house of Deputy Editor, Daily Nawa-i-Waqt.
The CJ had taken suo moto on a news item published in Nawa-i-Waqt on September 19 in which Aasi has stated that on September 7 unknown person entered his Sabzazar house and took away his son's motorcycle. He submitted an application to Nawa Kot police station for the registration of case against watchman Nazar of adjoining under-construction house. Aasi said Nazar and his son had also stolen a mobile from his house a week ago.
The police produced accused in the court of Saeed Ahmad Awan, judicial magistrate on September 11 for obtaining remand and the court refused the same on the ground that the accused persons appeared innocent from their faces. Aasi further stated that when he tried to know about the order of judicial magistrate, he was informed by the court staff that record of the remand was not maintained by the court.
