Establishment of day-care centre hailed

Female workers have appreciated the Ministry of Population Welfare for setting up a day-care centre in its building called "Population House". They said it had been their long-standing demand to have the facility in the ministry's building where they could put up their children while they were at work.
"The establishment of day-care centre is a positive step and will help boost performance of the female employees, who are effectively contributing their services towards success of the ministry's programme," remarked a female employee. Earlier, ministry's women workers were compelled to put their children into day-care centre established in community centre, Aabpara, which was far-off and consuming time and money, she said.
Minister for Population Welfare, Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd was expected to formally inaugurate the centre in due course, spokesperson of the ministry said. The newly constructed facility is being equipped with all necessary facilities that could also benefit female workers in other ministries situated in the Pak Secretariat.
The efforts had been expedited to convert the site into a full-fledged nursery centre by arranging more funds and formal procedures, the official added, were in final stages to materialise the plan, soon, the official added.
Replying to a question, the official said ministry's programmes, had been chalked out in line with local requirements, that was why they were successfully going ahead with concrete results, the official maintained. The ministry had launched a crash programme to educate local doctors on issues relating to contraceptive surgery in different major cities of the country, the spokesperson said.
The programme was run in collaboration with the UNFPA for local Registered Medical Practitioners in district hospitals. The training sessions were held in hospitals of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Larkana, Sukkur, Quetta, Muzaffarabad, Multan and Dera Ismail Khan, the official added. The whole process was thoroughly monitored by senior doctors of technical and clinical wings of the ministry, provincial departments of population welfare and representatives of the UNFPA, the official informed the press.
