Fire broke out in a chemicals godown at Circular road in the jurisdiction of Akbari Gate police station, here on Monday. Fire service sources told APP that drums and bags of chemicals were stocked in the godown which caught fire due to the leakage of some flammable after an explosion in it.
No one was seriously injured in the fire incident as the people present over there ran away from the scene soon after the explosion in the godown. However, some people received minor injuries who were provided first aid by Rescue service 1122.
More than 12 units of the Fire Brigade, Rescue 1122 service and Civil Defence participated in the rescue operation and controlled the fire after two hours hectic efforts. The owners of the chemicals godown Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Zubair claimed that the loss was in hundreds of thousands rupees in the mishap.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are a number of chemical warehouses at Circular road while no sufficient precautionary measures were taken by the owners and the concerned departments to avert any such mishap. Meanwhile, the residents of the said area urged the government to take steps to shift these chemical godowns to any other non residential area to avoid some major incident.
