Agriculture sector is facing acute shortage of urea fertilisers and dealers are selling it on inflated rates, which would affect the production of crops particularly sugarcane. "Urea is important for growth of crops and its shortage would have bad impact on harvest." Ghulam Ali, a farmer from Sargodha, told newsmen.
He said some fertiliser dealers had created artificial shortage to earn undue profit. Chaudhry Abid Ranjha, also a farmer from Kotmoman said fertiliser dealers delivered one urea bag after one week on depositing of National Identity Cards with them.
He said those dealers were also earning undue profit by selling a bag of urea at Rs 920 instead of government fixed rate of Rs 635. He urged the government to take measures to overcome this shortage in order to save particularly the cultivation of Rabbi crops.
