Justice Sardar Raza takes oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan Thursday took oath as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan in absence of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, who left for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar administered oath to Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan.
Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan was deposed from his office on November 3, last year for refusing to take oath of allegiance under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) promulgated by former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd).
Justice Raza has recently rejoined the Supreme Court by taking a fresh oath. He stands senior most judge of the SC after the Chief Justice as his seniority along with other judges who took oath was kept intact. Earlier, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, the then senior judge of the Supreme Court, had taken charge as Acting Chief Justice when the Chief Justice was abroad.
Judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court, judges of high court, senior lawyers of the Supreme Court, legal fraternity and other law officers of the government attended the ceremony. Registrar of Supreme Court, Raja Lehrasab Khan conducted the proceedings of the oath taking ceremony.
