26 Sep, 2008

The Lahore High Court (LHC) directed on Thursday to hand over the record, produced by DPO Gujarat, to Advocate General (AG), Punjab, in pursuance of further action when he (DPO) assured that no more PML-Q workers in Gujarat would be arrested till the final decision of the court.
The court issued these orders during the course of proceedings on a petition filed by opposition leaders in Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din and adjourned the proceedings till October 13.
AG Punjab also informed the court that he would personally look into the matter and assured that no political or extraneous consideration would be allowed to influence the proceedings.
Moreover, AG informed the court that so far twenty-five persons have been arrested, adding that certain FIRs have also been recorded pursuant to some alleged recoveries. DPO has also been asked to provide complete list of arrested persons to petitioner's counsel.
Furthermore, petitioner's counsel sought time to place some documents on record to support his claim of 200 arrests. The petitioner, who is also Secretary PML-Q, stated that on September 17, PML-Q arranged an Iftar-dinner in the honour of its parliamentarians and workers.
The opposition leader alleged that on the direction Chief Minister Punjab, DPOs of Gujarat and Mandi Baha-ud-Din launched a crackdown against PML-Q and arrested over 200 party workers under fake cases.
