Mian Tahir Ishaq Bharara, Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) has protested over adding withholding tax (WHT) in electricity bills in spite of their legal exemption. Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he said that textile exporters are exempted from withholding tax under FBR Circular No 10 of 2008 on the electricity bill above Rs 20,000.
He said that government has also exempted exporters from sales tax on their electricity bills. He said that income tax department has also provided a list of exempted exporters to Fesco but in spite of this fact, withholding tax has been added in their electricity bills. He demanded of the Fesco authorities to refund this withholding tax and issue instruction to avoid this practice in future.
