Third Panama case JIT report to be submitted in SC today

ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team formed by the Supreme Court to probe money trail of the Sharif family under Panama case verdict, will submit its third and second-last inquiry report to the apex court today (Thursday).

The report will be submitted to the court's special bench formed to regulate the implementation of the Supreme Court's April 20 judgment in the Panama case under which JIT was formed on May 6.

The investigation has been ruled to be completed by JIT within 60 days and submitted to Supreme Court.

The JIT submitted its first progress report on May 22 and midterm report on June 7 before the special bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh.

Meanwhile the investigation, several controversies impeded the probe, including when premier’s son Hussain Nawaz filed a petition accusing the JIT of deliberately leaking his interrogation picture; the petition was dismissed by the special bench on Tuesday.

Later the JIT submitted a report accusing several official quarters, including the PM House, of creating hurdles in its probe. However, the judges have given the attorney general more time to submit the government’s response to the JIT’s accusations.

So far, the JIT has summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif,  Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PM's sons Hussain Nawaz five times, and Hassan Nawaz twice.

The six-member JIT is headed by FIA Additional Director Wajid Zia and comprising SBP officer Amer Aziz, SECP Executive Director Bilal Rasool, Balochistan NAB DG Irfan Naeem Mangi, intelligence officials retired Brig Nauman Saeed and Brig Kamran Khurshid.
