27 Sep, 2008

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the District Police Officer (DPO) Gujarat to complete investigation about police harassment and registration of fake cases against a Pakistan Muslim League-Q activist Afghan Farooq. Directing the DPO to file report by October 14 the judge held that he would be directly responsible if there would be any harm to the petitioner.
Petitioner submitted that he had never been involved in any criminal or anti social activities. He belongs to PML-Q and launched election campaign for brother of PML-Q leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain.
He said after the change of government in Punjab the DPO Gujarat Tahir Alam was given the special task to teach him a lesson as a result of which he was harassing him and his family members and conducting raids at his house. He said SHO police station Jalalpur Jattan along with a heavy police contingent raided his house and misbehaved with the family members and took away gold ornaments and valuable articles.
He said the DPO was informed about the illegal actions of the SHO but no action was taken so far. Petitioner alleged that the DPO and the SHO through a managed person got a fake case of attempting murder registered against him only to please the government.
