An attempt to smuggle wheat flour worth Rs 2.4 million outside the province in two sealed containers was foiled by a search at Kot Sabzal police check post in Tehsil Sadiqabad early Friday morning.
Local police told newsmen that two containers (TLH-579 and TLB-013) carrying 500 flour bags of 80 kilograms each and 1,000 bags of 40 kg each, were intercepted at the check post bordering Sindh, and were checked on suspicion despite the Customs seal.
When asked, the container drivers said they were bound for Tando Allah Yar in Sindh, but denied knowledge about the flourmill from where the consignment originated, and claimed that they had picked up the cargo from a given point in Rahim Yar Khan. The police have brought both drivers to town to identify the source, and investigation is under way.
