The food department Punjab has asked the district co-ordination officers (DCOs) to submit the flour requirements of their respective districts besides list of 'Tandoors' to ensure availability of Roti at Rs 2 across the province even after Ramazan as announced by the Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
Sources in the department told Business Recorder here on Friday, that a team constituted by the chief minister Punjab and headed by the chief secretary Punjab was working on the strategy to ensure continued supply of Roti on the rate announced by Mian Shahbaz Sharif even after the month of Ramazan.
They said that the department had asked the DCOs to submit to the department the complete details like flour requirement, list of Tandoors offering Roti at Rs 2 etc These details would reach to the department within a day or two and the committee would finalise its recommendations to submit to the chief minister to make the scheme a success after his return from abroad, the sources added.
Regarding the amount of subsidy, the sources said the difference between the market price of the flour bag and the bag provided to the Tandoors offering Roti under the Chief Minister's Scheme would be paid by the food department to the millers or the sources from where the flour bags would be taken.
They said that the amount of subsidy would be calculated once the department would get all the details asked from the DCOs as currently department has no idea of how much flour would be consumed by these Tandoors. Regarding the release price of official wheat to the flour millers after the month of Ramazan, the sources said that this issue would also be settled soon after Eid.
