Anti-tuberculosis awakening programme winds up

01 Oct, 2008

Anti-tuberculosis awakening programme has been wound up due to paucity of funds, said a source in the health department on Tuesday. The anti-TB programme entitled "Anti-TB awakening drive programme global round-6" was being run with the assistance of World Health Organisation (WHO). Due to shortage of funds, this programme is being closed down from October 1, ie, Wednesday.
Consequently, all district social mobilisers have been laid off. However, TB DOTS programme will remain intact. Under this programme, the TB patient is administered medicines by the health worker himself or herself so that gap does not occur in the nine-month treatment course.
