A joint investigation team has been formed to probe the suicide blast in Wali Bagh, Charsadda, said Inspector General of Police NWFP Malik Naveed on Friday. Talking to PTV, he said investigation was under way in collaboration with a FIA team after collecting all evidences from the site of the incident.
However, no credible clue has so far been found in the preliminary analysis, he added. Giving a brief account of the tragic episode, he said there were stringent security measures at the Hujra (guestroom) of ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan in Wali Bagh, Charsadda.
Every visitor was being checked thoroughly checked at the entry point under manual and metal detector procedure besides passing through the walk-through gates, he said.
During that procedure, the suicide attacker got confused and ran towards the Hujra. Police personnel under the standard operating procedure ordered him to stop but when he did not stop, police opened fire on him.
The attacker sustained six bullets in his body and fell down twice and started crawling towards the ANP chief. On which, personal security guard (Yar Zameen Khan) of Asfandyar Wali and a constable fired at the attacker. Yar Zameen Khan jumped on the attacker, pulling him down on the ground and blast occurred in the meantime, he narrated.
To a question, he said there was general life threat to the entire leadership of ANP, while security of prominent political personalities has been beefed up following the incident.
The IGP urged masses to play their due role in curbing the menace of terrorism and keep strict vigilance in their surroundings by monitoring suspicious elements.
He said it was difficult to arrest a suicide bomber alive but gave some hints to identify a would-be attacker, elaborating that suicide bomber always travels alone, looks nervous with different walk-style and his body gives some bulky look.
