Hospitals in Faisalabad on Friday registered more than 450 patients suffering from gastroenteritis following an outbreak in a nearby village of Chak No 62-JB (Chanan kay) on Jhang Road. The epidemic seized the villagers after they consumed contaminated water.
About 16 gastro patients were brought to Allied Hospital, while more than one hundred, were admitted to other private hospitals. Further, more than 300 gastro patients were given medical treatment while they were kept in open places of the village, the District Health Officer, Dr Muhammad Saddique told Business Recorder.
He said that 90 years old Muhammad Hussain died of prolonged illness, however the villagers claimed him to be a victim of gastro-enteritis. The DCO Faisalabad, Saeed Wahala visited the ill-fated village and met with people suffering from gastro-enteritis.
Meanwhile, the District Administration and Health Department were taking precautionary measures and took 16 water samples from various places. Most of the water samples were found not suitable for human consumption. The villagers blamed contractors for using old, rusty pipes and other substandard materials in a recently completed water supply project that undertaken by one NGO in collaboration with the City District Government.
