While addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Federal Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Farooq. H. Naik said that changes were being brought in the Constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and a five-member committee with three-year tenure comprising senior players would be formed, who would give recommendations in this regard.
He said the Committee would also deliberate on the aspect of overall promotion of cricket in the country. He was flanked by former cricket stars Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, Inzimam-ul-Haq, Muhammad Mushataq on the occasion.
On the appointment of the new PCB chairman the minister said that it would be prudent that if he was a former cricketer. He said it was being considered and was on anvil. Replying to a query on ICL (Indian Cricket League) he said they were considering aspects of that too. The minister said that President Zardari was highly committed to improvement in the game and his keen interest in it would bring positive change in the game, where cricket would reach its same peak as witnessed in the past.
He said that foreign teams were shying away from coming to Pakistan, but things would improve, as there was definite strategy on elimination of terrorism being undertaken here.
He said our army was in support of anti-terrorist operations and soon war would be won against this menace.
He said in order to boost up cricket here and prove that cricket was safe, a World XI to play cricket here would be invited.
Naik said that war on terrorism was being handled with full vigor, however, to do away with old policies, it would need time. He said that he had talked to the minister of state on sports regarding ICP meeting in Dubai.
The minister also said that blasts had occurred also in the neighbouring country, India, but foreign teams were going there. Former Test Cricketer Rameez Raja on the occasion said that with strengthening up of domestic cricket structure, the game would be bolstered. Raja said that there was no dearth of talent in cricket in the country.
